Week 11: "SUXX" w/ Bentley Robles
In August of 2021, as I was on my way out of NYC, I had one last show and i was extremely excited because two artists that I ahd been watching on social media already were also on the bill! Bentley was one of those artists and a few days before the show I reached out to see if he’d want to meet up to make a promo video for the show! We ended up meeting at one of his rehearsals and making a goofy promo video along with MuMu and the vibes were great!
After the show we knew we wanted to work together so I sent him some instrumentals I had and he imediately gravitated to one that was simply called “9.17.20 disco” XD.
This is all it was at first:
In just about a week Bentley sent me back the chorus and first verse idea for “SUXX” and I was taken aback by 1. how catchy it was and 2. how much production he had done with his vocals. He will always undersell his production ability but he’s very good ;).
Within another week he sent me a new version that was almost finished and I proceeded to adding more layer of synths, percussion, and groove to bring it to another level. Bentley then added the bridge area, sent it back to me for more revisions, then I sent him stems for revisions, and then FINALLY we were ready to bring on Ryan Schumer to mix the track! I rarely let others mix my songs but Ryan really brought a new energy to the track and made it shine!
I hope this track gets you dancing, we definitely had fun making it!
